A guy of the named of Phil Jaques he was excellent cricketer at First Class cricket and show it at the top of level but some unlucky selection lost his spot and never came back but lets look how good he was.
His Career at first class cricket was excellent with helping New South Wales to winning the shield final and this included a double century. Moreover his English domestic season was excellent with Northamptonshire with 1200 runs. In addition to this he play at Yorkshire where excel with 1,118 runs in the 2004 season and 1,359 in 2005. Moreover came back to New South Wales with 1,191 runs in the 04/05 season and many pandits were calling for him to play for Australia. In 2006 and 2007 he play for Worcestershire and scored 1689 runs in 18 matches.
This had finally help him as the selectors who selected him in 2005 test match against South Africa at the MCG but fail with making 28 in the first innings. It took until the series against Bangladesh with making 66 in the second test. Unforutaley couldn’t push through to be a opener as Langer and Hayden stamp their authority in the 06/07 Ashes season. Then after Justin Langer retirement Jaques was given opportunity ahead of Chris Rodgers and took full advantage of it with making a century and making 66 in the series against Sri Lanka. Moreover made 150 in the second test to capped off a great series. In addition to this kept his spot for the West Indies series with making a crucial century at Bridgetown but was dropped for the India series as Simon Katich took over as the opener.
Phil Jaques is very underrated cricketer and after multiple back injuries was never able come back. Phil Jaques play 11 tests with a top score of 150 and batting average of 47.47 with 902 runs. Jaques will be seen as a shouldn’t or couldn’t but should be celebrated as the most underrated cricketer in Australia and at first class cricket.
