Revealed :Lygon Street’s Cafe Correto’s Bond with F1

Photo taken by Patrick Morrow Cafe Correto Shop Front

“It is an experience like no other, my father completely forgot that Alonso is an F1 driver he always says what is the big fuss about but for me, it is an honour,” said Head Chef of Cafe Corretto Antonino.

Lygon Street is well known to be the hub for the  Italian community in all forms from food to music but also sport especially soccer/football and motorsport.  Formula one has a strong  bond in Lygon street,  with the support  of team Ferrari everywhere.

When the Melbourne Grand Prix started in the early 90s a small restaurant on Lygon Street serve the likes of Fernando Alonso , Sebastian Vettel and the team principals of the teams like Ferrari to Red Bull and McLaren.

The restaurant is Cafe Corttero where the sport is well supported as seen by the photo above as it has  a replica of the 2004 world championship car owned by 7 x world champion Michael Schumacher  in the front of the shop.

Head Chef Antonino who has worked in the family business for over 22 years and with help of the owners connections was happy enough to explain the strong bond of Formula One and Lygon Street has.

“With all the Italian passion around Lygon Street, Cafe Corttero is where Formula One is at and will be always said Chef Antonino”.

F1 is the biggest sporting event to hit Melbourne with  up to 401,000 people turned out for the four days to see all the the thrills and spills.

F1 has been an exclusive sport to the rich and famous but  opens its self  to the whole of Melbourne every march especially Lygon. Some of the stories that Antonio gave me in terms of what has happened to when superstars like Vettel and Brazilian driver Felipe Massa when arriving can only be describe as mass hysteria with  fans flooding to the  shop.

On if the 7x world champion Michael Schumacher ever graced the doors at Cafe Corrterto,

“I don’t want to get in trouble, he might of but I don’ know, I don’t  know his son will come just due to fact it is a Schumacher ”said Chef Antonio .

The history of Formula ONE in Australia stems back to the time where it was hosted in Adelaide, but then move to Melbourne to race around Albert Park just at the end of the 20th century, this brought a new wave of F1 fans and also made a huge impact for Lygon Street.

As the news broke that drivers were coming to  restaurants like Cafe Corretro’s in the early years of the race, the fans would follow them it would cause a  huge flow-on effect on to the business. “It was like Christmas came early for us ”, said Antonio. “We have shut the business to allow drivers and entourage to eat their dinner without distraction”.

As F1 is a religion just like soccer for Italians you walk through Lygon Street during the grand Prix fill to the brim with Ferrari Merchandise, Michael Schumacher photos and much more. Motorsport found its way to Italy in the 1920s with Enzo Ferrari developing the Ferrari brand and the superpower we know today. F1 and the World Car Touring Championship transform the brand for Ferrari to make it worldwide.

Now in the modern era, the F1 party in Melbourne has quiet down due to the ever-growing social media presence and also the fall of Ferrari.

“As we are in 2021, the public knows if likes Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen were at Cafe Corrterto there would logistic issues and would be chaos said Chef Antonio,”.

Last year’s F1 season was badly affected by Covid and with no Melbourne Grand Prix,  restaurants were badly hit by this but Chef Antonio reassures me they are the lucky ones.

As I look around the restaurant the Ferrari support is evident, but Chef Antonio and owners Marko and Carlo have welcomed the mechanics of the teams from Red Bull to Mercedes. “The mechanics are even cooler than the drivers they have a unique personality and will always give us time to ask questions and hear team news”, said Antonio.

This is not the only time sports stars have grace Cafe Corrtero, with the former Lord Mayor of Melbourne   Robert Doyle coming in for a bowl of pasta. “It was the best to serve him and was really a surreal experience, said Antonio.

Antonio delve into the  changing landscape of F1 and believes that Mercedes dominance has ruined the sport  and has ruin’s Ferrari chances for the future,” said Antonio.

As the F1 world knows Mercedes have dominated the sport for over 10 years it has changed the landscape in terms of FAI rules for the 2022 season but wasn’t change is the love for the sport and that is true in Lygon Street with the Scuderia.  Lygon street and Cafe Corrteto’s bond with  F1  goes deeper and will live on in the future.

Astra Zeneca Vaccination program comes into question due to Blood Clots

https://familydoctor.com.au/covid19vaccine/

The Astra Zeneca Vaccination program in Australia has come into question because of a finding of Blood Clots in European countries.

Australia’s top health public officials have stressed that the relationship between the vaccine and

Blood Clots is not possible.  This was Paul Kelly Australia’s Chief Medical officer shutting down any speculation.

Medical Health Officer Paul Kelly SO based on the evidence to date 90 do not see any reason to pause the use of the AstraZeneca vaccine in Australia.

With France, Spain and Germany suspending their programs in the meantime the Vaccine in Australia is still supported by the Government and was defended heavily in Parliament by the Health Minster Greg Hunt.

Health Minster Greg Hunt,The government clearly, unequivocally, absolutely supports the AstraZeneca rollout – clearly, unequivocally, absolutely.

With the Asia and Pacific region pushing ahead with their use of the vaccine, only time will tell if this hiccup in the rollout will find’s way here

Top five first-year players in the AFL

Here are my choices for the top five first-year players right now in the AFL. They have starred in their debut season.

Gold Coast, Matt Rowell
Well, I can’t say much but in his first four games, he looked like a freak. It is bringing us back to an era of genuine freaks like Gary Ablett Senior, Leigh Matthews and Gary Ablett Junior. In Rowell’s four games he averaged 17 touches a game, four clearances a game and his best game was against the Eagles with 26 touches and a goal. Not bad for someone who has only played four games of footy. He will be one to watch next year and will lead the Suns to glory in the future and could lead the Suns to their first premiership.

Gold Coast, Izak Rankine
Again I can’t say too much about Rankine, another freak player who has been a star for the Suns with 1.5 goals a game and 12.5 touches a game. He has looked dangerous every time the ball goes near him. Rankine is someone to keep watching into the future and if he stays for a long time he could be a star and he will be an All Australian. These sort of players are once in a generation so if he stays with them for a long time, the Suns will finally have glory and success in the future.

Port Adelaide, Mitch Georgiades
He has been excellent for Port. He looks like a genuine gun and a physically built player. Georgiades has been averaging nine touches a game, one goal a game and two tackles a game. In addition to this he has been a huge influence for Port’s forward line with six goals this season. He has been key to Port’s forward pressure, which has helped Port be on top of the ladder. Georgiades is a star and will be someone to watch into the future and could be part of a premiership-winning team.

Gold Coast, Noah Anderson
Another Suns player makes this list. Averaging 14 touches a game, he has been key in the midfield and has been a key to the Suns’ forward ball movement and pressing style of game. Anderson has been great for the Suns and provided great chemistry with Brandon Ellis and Touk Miller and has helped in the clearance battle as well, which has helped Gold Coast stay in games and win the midfield battle.

Richmond, Jake Aarts
He has been very handy for Richmond, kicking nine goals for the season as a small forward. Aarts has been a great inclusion to Richmond’s forward line. Being a small forward he has helped Richmond’s forward structure. He has been a great find for Richmond and is someone that will be playing first-team footy for the Tigers for a while and could be a part of a back-to-back premiership side.

Kevin Muscat Rise and fall of a champion

Source: Getty Images

Kevin Muscat born in the western suburbs of Melbourne is know as one of toughest centre backs’s from Australia and was he the best from Australia in playing and managing?.

Muscat represented  Millwall, Crystal Palace and more recently Melbourne Victory and representing Australia where he score a penalty to get a foot in the 2002 world cup but Australia was denied by Uruguay in the second leg and Muscat miss out on a world cup but that penalty live in the memory of many Australians.

Muscat has a decorated career which spans from his days starting at Crystal Palace in 1997 where he was apart of being  promoted to the Premier league for the first time since 95. Also where he kept multiple clean sheets in that season.  After his time at Palace, Muscat went on to play at Wolves where it spanned 180 appearances at the club.

In between playing in England also play for Rangers in the Scottish league where he won the treble with fellow Aussie Tony Vidmar and with the likes of now Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta which is quite amazing for a Australian.

Then after his stint in Scotland went to Millwall. Where he was  made captain under player/coach and soccer legend Dennis Wise. In this season Muscat led  Millwall on a FA Cup run . Where Millwall finished runner up in the 2004 fa cup final against Manchester Untied .

Unforutaley Muscat had a season ending injury in the semi final against Sunderland and miss out on that famous Fa Cup final. After that season Muscat left Millwall and came back to Australia where he played and captain Melbourne Victory for 6 successful  seasons.

Muscat went on to win three titles with Melbourne victory as a player in the six seasons at Victory. He is seen by Victory diehards as a club legend and  leading the club in the early years in the Aleague.

Even though his playing style was dirty and was know to play a physical style of play  it help in keeping teams bot scoring and keep clean sheets.

Muscat was seen by the fans as a hard nose player even though some of the tackles that he handed out to many Strikers were dirty by the experts and referees.  This included one challenge on Melbourne Heart striker Adrian Zahra which Former Socceroo Mark Bosnich said post match it is a disgrace .

But by many pandits he is regarded as a great defender to play the world game from Australia with former England international Terry Butcher stating “Every manager in the A-League would love to have Kevin, and I’m no exception”.

One famous incident that makes Muscat seem to be a bad boy is the cold shoulder that he gave at the time to a young Ashley Young who was playing for Manchester untied at the time. He was  playing on Muscat in the friendly in 2011. Young stated “ Kevin Muscat said he would break my legs if I went past him,”.

One Spanish newspaper claim that Muscat is football’s dirtiest player to play the game.

Take away some of his poor tackles and red cards he was certainly a tough defender to get pass and one not to mess with. Just look at his status in Australian Football he is pioneer in managing Victory and making play a style that can be compare to his playing days hard , tough and no nonsense football.

After his playing days were over he was successor to Ange Postecoglou and took over as caretaker coach in 2012. Then in 2013 was given the full time role and manage Victory to two A’league titles and the FFA Cup in 2015 which is quite brilliant as a coach in only your second full season.

Now in 2020 is on the front foot as the first Australian coach to managed a team in Europe with Belgium side Sint-Truiden in Belgium’s top tier league. He is quite possibly the best manger from  Australia right now with this move Sint-Truiden as he has the record to show this with a winning percentage at victory of 49 percent of 214 games he manage.  Which is great  and many people in Europe were impress by his managerial skills when he was at Victory when they were competing in the  Asian Champion’s league.

Muscat is arguably one of best centre back’s and manger from Australia . From being a gritty player from the western  suburbs of Melbourne to being  tactical genius it creating a machine at Melbourne Victory. The record speaks for it’s self just outstanding and has to be celebrated as a legend in Australian football and a pioneer in growth of the world game in Australia.

The most underrated Cricketer in Australia

A guy of the named of Phil Jaques he was excellent cricketer at First Class cricket and show it at the top of level but some unlucky selection lost his spot and never came back but lets look how good he was.

His Career at first class cricket was excellent with helping New South Wales to winning the shield final and this included a double century. Moreover his English domestic season was excellent with Northamptonshire with 1200 runs. In addition to this he play at Yorkshire where excel with 1,118 runs in the 2004 season and 1,359 in 2005. Moreover came back to New South Wales with 1,191 runs in the 04/05 season and many pandits were calling for him to play for Australia. In 2006 and 2007 he play for Worcestershire and scored 1689 runs in 18 matches.

This had finally help him as the selectors who selected him in 2005 test match against South Africa at the MCG but fail with making 28 in the first innings. It took until the series against Bangladesh with making 66 in the second test. Unforutaley couldn’t push through to be a opener as Langer and Hayden stamp their authority in the 06/07 Ashes season. Then after Justin Langer retirement Jaques was given opportunity ahead of Chris Rodgers and took full advantage of it with making a century and making 66 in the series against Sri Lanka. Moreover made 150 in the second test to capped off a great series. In addition to this kept his spot for the West Indies series with making a crucial century at Bridgetown but was dropped for the India series as Simon Katich took over as the opener.

Phil Jaques is very underrated cricketer and after multiple back injuries was never able come back. Phil Jaques play 11 tests with a top score of 150 and batting average of 47.47 with 902 runs. Jaques will be seen as a shouldn’t or couldn’t but should be celebrated as the most underrated cricketer in Australia and at first class cricket.

“Corona crisis and how it has impacted all of us ”

Corona crisis is the biggest crisis since world war 2 as stated by The economist . This virus has infected all as seen  through the weeks. With the UK Prime Minster Boris Johnson who is still recovering from the virus and was in intensive care last week .This had the world on edge and still today with every decision that is made around the world.

To be added  Schools in Victoria will be open but by online means which is crazy for students in year 12 who have been effected greatly. As Victoria Premier Daniel Andrew pointed it out “Schools will remain but will conduct online classes and for those who cannot do online can go school”, said Andrews. In addition to this Year 12 exams will be scheduled in December.

Moreover this virus has impacted sport as well with cricket, AFL and soccer.  As many athletes are now trying to be mentors to the public and social media is playing a big role for them staying relevant.

Likes of Daniel Ricardo, Angus Bradshaw have given comic relief in these hard times this is through videos on Instagram and twitter which is applauded and show’s sport’s stars just like us human beings.

Moreover the virus  has impacted the scheduling of sport  in  Australia’s next cricket season as they due to host Men’s T20 World cup in October but have a uphill battle with other sporting codes such as the AFL which would normally powered through to September.

This gives enough time for cricket to be organised but now with this virus, the AFL wants to play late as December to announce a premiership.

It sounds like pure madness as we could see the AFL grand final on at the same time as the boxing day test. Then there is the argument from the  football code wanting to use the MCG,  not understanding complexes and logistics that would take for this to be done. It seems the code wars are back in Australia

In addition to this virus has effected the arts and music scene  all over the world, one big event is generates major crowds and helps new upcoming DJ’S gain traction is Tomorrowland and this festival is cancel. The  festival organisers were saddened by cancellation . “With a lot of pain in our hearts, we have to inform you that Tomorrowland cannot take place in 2020”, said festival organiser.  In addition to this the DJ’s now have to change to do online streams though radio and tv networks.

Moreover many musicians have done this in a way to help their own brand image  and by giving money to charities and organisations that are providing  helping in stoping this virus and to give them better social media coverage .

Spanish flu after this the world through some of best times in the 20’s it might happened again but looks likely that people of the world will paying for this in the future.

In addition to this it might review our way of life and way use public transport and how we interact with people but all in all this virus show’s fragile we are as humans in this century and show’s how precious life is.

There is some positive with the first human coronavirus trials underway in Britain and which is great as the patience is paying off as these trial are the first and if successful could see vaccine in 3 to 6 months time. But for the now we must as a society follow all rules and keep us and the citizens of the world safe.

Overall this virus is effected everything from sport, to daily life and music and will continue to be a issue in the future and is huge impact on what we do as humans. Moreover  but show our compassion to helping and respecting as seen all over Europe with people cheering and clapping for hospital workers and nurses.

Moreover this show’s the care that people do have to those stoping this virus and show’s as a society we must be grateful for those who do help us.

T20 WORLD CUP WITHOUT FANS

A T-20 World Cup without fans is quite possible in this current climate.  As the Covid 19 looks like it will not let up anytime soon and the host nation Australia not looking ease restrictions, as it hardens its stance to flatten the curve. The Australian Prime Minster Scott Morrison said “These restrictions will be in place for 6 months”. Moreover, this could see the Men’s T-20 World Cup play without fans. Many greats of the game have called that the tournament, should be postponed. This also has other factors, involving the IPL which might want to use this window to play the tournament during this time, but it is unlikely.

One in particular is the Former Australian Captain, Allan Border who said, “I just can’t imagine playing at empty stadiums, it defies belief,”. Moreover, he is concerned with other players from countries coming into Australia that could cause major issues. “Having teams, support staff and everyone else associated with the game wandering around the country, playing games of cricket, but you can’t let people into the grounds. I just can’t see it happening,” Border said.

Current player and star T-20 player Glen Maxwell can’t believe a World Cup without fans.

In addition to this, the T-20 world cup with no fans, could be possible but at what cost for players? What about those who are close to retirement such as likes of AB de Villers? He would miss out getting the appreciation from the fans.  In addition, a postponement of the tournament will cause more uncertainty for AB De Villers let alone the tournament directors. If the tournament is postponed when can it play? The next T-20 World Cup is scheduled for India next year. Will that have be pushed back for this year’s World Cup, also when can it be played? These are questions that the ICC and Cricket Australia will need to answer soon. Other sporting codes need to have an idea who are hungrier than ever to play in any available time slot as well.

But let’s get back to the topic. Without fans just imagine a similar World Cup Final to the one we had last year. Without fans it just be plain weird but having them at matches would go against what the authorities are saying to us. Sport stars are not immune to this virus and this includes cricketers.

This tournament is a jewel for the ICC as the TV rights are worth 2 billion US dollars and generates dollars for Australia as a host nation. It will help the tourism industry but with this pandemic Australia and the ICC will not the reap the rewards if there are no fans in attendance. Border also said if the tournament went ahead without fans the only would benefit would be TV and that is not right. The Men’s T-20 World Cup was schedule to start 18 October to the 15 November only time will tell if the ICC can pull this off and what feat that would be.

As Coronavirus is spreading and infecting everything it touches, as seen around the world. So what about cricket you ask?

Australian cricketers Ryan Harris (L-bottom) and Ben Hilfenhaus (top-L) take a run to win during the final day of the first-of-three Test matches between Australia and West Indies at the Kensington Oval stadium in Bridgetown on April 11, 2012. Australia defeated West Indies by 3 wickets. AFP PHOTO/Jewel Samad (Photo credit should read JEWEL SAMAD/AFP/Getty Images)

At this stage cricket is cancelled in all forms and this includes community cricket. The last time cricket was cancelled for a period of time was during the World Wars and the Spanish flu of 1917. At the time cricket was cancelled at a professional level but there were some charity matches. Now 103 year’s later, there’s no cricket at all, not even charity matches!

As many fans know the inaugural test championship was getting slowly to the half way mark of the tournament. The Coronavirus has impacted greatly on cricket. For example, England were meant to tour Sri Lanka, in a test series which was crucial to England climbing up the tables to chase down India and Australia who are first and second respectfully. In addition to this Pakistan were hosting Bangladesh in a prolonged test series due to Pakistan Super league and all of that has been cancel as well. This means those countries are missing out on crucial points.

Moreover as this virus spreading around the world every cricket tour into the future is in jeopardy, including domestic and community cricket as well. A perfect example is where Australia have just hosted the woman’s T-20 World Cup, which was an overall success. The week following the tournament, the Government of Australia placed a ban on mass gatherings which would of impacted the grand finale ending an excellent tournament prematurely if the call was made earlier.

This virus will impact Australia’s next cricket season as they due to host Men’s T20 World cup in October but have a uphill battle with other sporting codes such as the AFL which would normally powered through to September. It seems the code wars are back in Australia.

That is the issues we face in today’s world. Questions be asked on the fairness of the test championship as countries will not play the same amount of test cricket. Former Pakistan test captain and now President of Pakistan cricket Misbah ul Haq has asked for equal amount test matches to be played by each nation so the test championship is not comprised.

We haven’t even got to the financial implications from this with many nations who will lose money at a domestic level. This includes the nations that are hosting cricket and the many background staff, who will have to be stood down. Players will have to take pay cuts as seen in England with players taking a 3 month pay cut due to the virus.

Moreover with the IPL cancelled as well, it to is looking to use the October time slot but it could be September as a lead up into the T-20 World Cup tournament.

Overall the ICC, cricket boards around the world will need to work out what is the best possible way and if means it is shorter cricket season in England, Australia, India and South Africa so be it. As long there is sport to play, then we know we have stop the virus!
