What Cricket could look like in 2050?

This is only theory but cricket in 2050 might be very different to what we know in 2019. So what will change.

The Pitches, Cricket pitches in today’s world have been quite good only for few expectations such as the flat pitch at the MCG and in Dubai but for everyone else cricket pitches have been quite good and created good cricket to watch. In 2050 cricket pitches might be limited with the world warmly rapidly and you guess it Climate change will be huge impact for everyone not just cricketers. For cricketers stake pitches might be more drier and be easier to bat on as could be limited water on it and also if there going to be oppressive heat cricket pitches will crack and make it harder to bat on later in a test match. I am guessing by 2050 there will technology to create cricket pitches that mirror all conditions around the world and make them rain proof.

The bat, cricket bat’s have change since WG Grace and keep changing, you only have to look at the bats that some modern players with big and heavy, I am guessing cricket bats will be still made out wood but could be limited so bats maybe made out of metal as we saw from Dennis Lillie in the 80’s batted with metallic bat. In addition to this bats might be have a perfect middle and we could see ball’s flying in a match in 2050.

The ball, cricket ball’s have been the same for many years so that one thing that has never change but they could change. An entrepreneur out there could develop a cricket ball that could swing for 80 overs and still be shiny even if it was hit to the fence. Also could create technology on the ball to have a camera on it create the ultimate viewing experience for the tv audience.

The Umpire, Umpires are human and do mistakes we all know that because given out on a dodgy lbw or caught behind so with society wanting everything perfect will we soon AI controlling a cricket match and leave the human umpires out of a job this is possible, as we seen now with the DRS more and more people do not trust the umpire decisions and will go upstairs for a decision to be overturned. In 2050 we might see AI umpires controlling a test match.

The formats, TEST ,ODI, T20 These three formats have serve cricket and made the game interesting, exciting and fascinating but these formats might change in 2050. As seen in the UK with their new format call “the 100” this is format cricket is crazy and show’s the ideas of people trying to make cricket interesting for all. We will see end of ODI but saying that we seen the best world cup final in decades so we only know when we get there. For Test cricket the duration of days may change with lot cricket heads saying it should four days not five and more overs in a day from 90 overs to 100 overs like a county game. In 2050 let’s just say the ICC test championship is well dead and test cricket is seen by the pundits as boring and is past the times. T20 this format will thrive and will most watch for cricket in 2050 and must watch cricket as a society we do not like patience and we are a now society as we want things fast not slow so this will perfect format in 2050.

My overall opinion, Cricket in 2050 will be different to when watch cricket now as anything style of cricket is different from each decade for example in the 90’s cricket was quite orthodox with batsman batting for long time and a par score in a one day game was about 240 , now the game is about scoring quickly and captains being aggressive with field placement and how they approach a game, for example a par score in one day match is 350. In 2050 we might see another Steve Smith , Virat Kohli but the style of cricket will be different and the game we know will be different. In addition will laws of cricket change will it be mandatory to wear a helmet will there be no mankad?Also climate change that will huge impact on grounds like Galle, Cape town, MCG, SCG and many more for example Galle is near the ocean it could see huge flooding, Cape town may have no water so they can not make cricket pitch all this will effect cricket. So cricket in 2050 is harder to predict then if the UK will leave the EU or Donald Trump winning the next election.
